15 minutes

FAQ's

Is 15 minutes enough time for a workout?

Yes! 15 minutes of hard, safe exercise is more than enough. Understand, the body doesn't respond to how much exercise but, how demanding the exercise or stimulus is. Within a few workouts clients find that the workouts become intense enough that they now understand that it takes good exercise not a lot of exercise.

At first a new client will train twice a week. This will allow more exercise time spent to learn the exercises and proper training protocol. This extra training time will also allow us(the trainers) to slowly increase the intensity of the workouts to a level that will cause the exercise stimulus to become hard enough that a change(i.e.more muscle, bone) will be required after every training session. As the client becomes stronger they will, over time, become strong enough that they will need more rest or recovery between exercise bouts. At this time the client will go from twice a week training to only once a week.

Will I lose weight with Abstract exercise?

This is the million dollar question. Yes you will lose fat with abstract exercise. By adding new lean muscle (becoming younger and stronger) you will increase your resting metabolic rate.  Understand though, that fat loss is 90% diet! If you don't control the calories you put into your body then fat loss will only be a fantasy. At Abstract, we help our clients create an eating strategy to lower calories and increase lean tissue and lose fat fast through proper exercise and diet.  Abstract Fat Loss Challenge participants on average lose 16 to 22 pounds of fat in only 8 weeks. How will this fit your health and fat loss goals?

How many times a week do I need to exercise?

At first we want you to train two times a week. At this rate, you will become familiar with the exercise protocol and gradually increase the intensity of each workout. Later, as you become stronger and more fit, you may train only one time a week. This is still enough time and intensity to get a correct balance of stimulus and rest to help you progress towards your goal. Research shows that two or even as little as one bout of strength exercise per week is all that most will need.

Shouldn't I do cardio exercising to be fit?

Good question! The heart and lungs, including the other organs, are there to support muscle.  This being true, the best way to engage the cardio-respiratory system is through proper strength training. Research on strength training shows an 11% in cardio-lung response over a period of 8 to 12 weeks. This is the same as long distance running.

If you strength train properly, you will not need to add any aerobic activities. An Abstract client will soon find their heart rate and respiration increasing as their workouts become briefer and more intense. Moving quickly between exercises, with little rest, it will become very apparent, to the client, that not only are they working their muscles but also their heart and lungs too. This type of circuit training has been shown to be extremely effecient and effective at causing the body to change(more muscle, bone, less fat)in a short amount of time. How will it feel to get better results then doing cardio alone, and save all of that extra time?

Aren't I too old to be lifting weights?

No! According to Tufts University and Doctor Wayne Westcott, men and women can get strong at any age! After the age of 25 we lose one-half pound of muscle and 1% of our bone density every year if we are not exercising properly (strength training). Those who need strength the most are people over the age of 50. A 50 year old person has lost 12-13lbs. of muscle and up to 25% of their bone density.  Seniors gain muscle, bone and strength as fast as those who are 25 years old. So, the good news is that age is not a factor.

How quickly will I see results?

Typically, an Abstract client will see an increase of 30% to 40% in strength in just six weeks.  Along with that, many of our clients will go down one clothing size in this same time period.  Those who commit themselves and are consistent will see even more. Strength training and proper diet can help you live younger and stronger in 1/10th the time of a typical program.

Won't I get bulky lifting weights? I don't want to look like a muscle builder?

No! I wish it was that easy. The large muscled men and women you see in magazines and on TV are in the top 1% of the human genetic population for size. Also, most of those use performance enhancing drugs to push themselves past their own normal genetic makeup. Bottom line: proper exercise will certainly help make you stronger, leaner and look younger, but you won't look like a pro bodybuilder. Remember, muscle is what gives us our shape. So to look leaner and more fit you will need to have muscle.

Do you stay with me the whole time I workout?

Yes. A certified Abstract trainer will be with you the whole time. We are there to help keep you safe, push you and encourage you to get better results in the shortest amount of time possible. We like to say that we are your Jiminy Cricket-- your exercise conscience if you will.
